There is a certain type of individual. Young, ambitious and talented. The type of person you want around. The type of person who will do good work. But also the type who perhaps hasn’t found their niche, or discovered kind of organisation they are best suited too. They will add value, but there is a high likelihood they will exit your organisation within a couple of years.
One perspective here would be to bemoan the investment you’re making in this type of person: recruitment, training, coaching, mentoring, etc. After all, you’re helping build a high performer that someone else will ultimately benefit from.
But if you help someone find their path, 10x their development, work on amazing projects with even more amazing people. You’re going to create a fan, a fan that will no doubt end up in lots of interesting places.
And fans talk.
