SXSW

A quick update from the airport.

I’m about to board a plane for ten days of technology, innovation, culture, music, film, margaritas and BBQ at SXSW.

I say this because my regular posts will temporarily take on a bit of a different flavour as I attempt to unpack some of the interesting themes and standouts from the event.

My intention for the event is to go in with as open a mind as I can. There will be so many perspectives, views and agendas, some that resonate with me, and some that don’t. But that doesn’t mean there aren’t lessons to be learned.

I’m particularly interested in taking a closer look at gaming. A colossal industry that dwarfs many others in media and entertainment, and one I’m admittedly fairly ignorant of. For something to capture the attention of the public is such a way, I’d wager there is much to learn.

Podcasting is another item on my agenda. As a podcaster myself it will be fun to see some of the heavy hitters of the genre. But beyond that, it’s a medium on the rise, as evidenced by the recent acquisition of Gimlet Media and Anchor by Spotify. I expect to see a lot of innovation in that space soon.

Then there are of course the ever present themes of privacy, data, customer experience and innovation that I’m sure to see and hear some interesting new ideas and perspectives on.

More to come.
